A total of 8 infrastructure projects will receive EUR 800 mln in loan-financing next year, the press office of the Bulgarian government announced Tuesday, September 26.

The government's economic policy council will propose to reconstruct some 300 km of main roads on a EUR 380 mln EIB loan next year.

The World Bank has committed EUR 15 mln for a social investment and job promotion initiative.

A special fund that will secure co-financing for the Bulgarian municipalities under EU-backed projects will be entitled to state guarantees. The fund's capital of EUR 50 mln will be 40% contributed by the government with the remainder to be syndicated by a group of banks led by the EBRD.

The government has also okayed the renovation of 440 km of second and third grade roads. That project will be supported by the World Bank with EUR 90 mln.

The EIB will disburse EUR 360 mln for the electrification of the Plovdiv-Svilengrad railway.

The World Bank will provide over 88 mln euro for projects to improve water supply and potable water quality in Dobrich, Razgrad, Sliven, Smolyan, Stara Zagora and Targovishte. The loan will be stretched to cover the cost of completing the Neikovtsi, Plovdivtsi and Luda Yana lake dams and the repairs of the Studena dam wall.

The EIB will also extend EUR 12.2 mln to improve the water cycle in Sliven, Vratsa and Gabrovo.
