The team of Sofia university “St. Kliment Ohridski” won the 10th Bulgarian National rounds for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and qualified for the international rounds which will take place from 12 until 18 April in Washington DC, USA.
The judges of the Bulgarian final included U.S. Embassy's new Resident Legal Advisor, Jessica Kim, as well as Bulgarian lawyers Svilen Todorov and Nikolay Mladenski, which are specialists in the field of Public International law.
The team, led by coach Valeri Blagoev – associate at DGKV, finished the Bulgarian qualification rounds with five out of five wins, won the prizes for best memorial and best oralist, and will represent Bulgaria against teams from more than 95 countries around the World at the 2020 Jessup International rounds.
The 2020 Jessup mock case addresses succession of States to treaties, fully autonomous weapons systems, potentially conflicting jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice and the World Trade Organization, and the accountability of heads of State for war crimes before the International Criminal Court.
