Bulgaria will receive EUR 2.8mn for green projects under the EU cohesion policy until 2013. The major goal of the investments is to protect the environment and to create new jobs. The funds will be allocated to the following areas: water management (33.1%), railroad transport (16.4%), waste management (10.6%), energy efficiency (4.5%), environment protection and biodiversity (3.5%), and renewable energy projects (2.4%). The funds for green projects account for half of the amount, which the country will receive under the EU cohesion policy until 2013. The total amount to be allocated to green projects in all EU member states stands at EUR 105bn, which is 30% of the cohesion policy budget.
