The US energy company AES plans to construct 80 MW solar energy park near the Danube town of Silistra . Initially, it will build 64 MW capacities and will add 16 MW at a later stage. The company has already applied for a 20-year electricity production licence at the state energy regulator. AES intends to launch the photovoltaic units by end-2012. The investment value has not been unveiled yet. In October, locally registered AES GEO Energy, controlled by AES and the Bulgarian-German company Geo Power, connected 52 wind-power generators with 3 MW capacity each near the northern Black Sea town of Kavarna to the national power grid. The total investment in the project stands at EUR 270mn. AES plans to launch its 670 MW coal-fired power plant (EUR 1.4bn) in Maritsa East mines complex by June.
