The Burgas-based refinery Lukoil Neftochim, fully owned by Russia’s oil major Lukoil, will launch a new USD 40mn installation for fuels production under the highest European standard Euro 5 in September next year, Investor.bg reads. The fuels will have 5 times lower content of sulphur as compared to the fuels produced under the Euro 4 standard. Lukoil is planning to expand the production capacity by 2013 and to buy more sulphur purification installations. The production capacity of the refinery stands at 9mn crude oil per year but actual output stands at some 7.5mn tons as this is the demand in the region. Lukoil Neftochim is the largest refining and chemical processing plant on the Balkans. A year ago, Lukoil informed about its plans to increase the capacity of Lukoil Neftochim Burgas by about 33% to 10mn tons per year. Greece’s Aktor, part of the construction group Hellenic Technodomiki, and Uhde GmbH (part of ThyssenKrupp AG) announced earlier this year that have won contracts to supply and install sulphur-purification systems at Lukoil Neftochim worth a total of EUR 165mn.
