Tengelmann sells local Plus discount chain to competitor Lidl.

In line with earlier information, Germany ’s Tengelmann has decided to sell its discounter retail business under the Plus trade mark in Bulgaria and Romania to Lidl, a note on the website of the company reads. The price of the deal, subject to antitrust approval, has not been unveiled yet. Plus entered the country in October last year and already runs 23 stores providing jobs to 820 employees. Lidl will take over all the staff. German discount retailer Lidl, part of Schwarz Group, announced intentions to enter the country this spring. Kaufland, also part of Schwartz, entered Bulgaria in early 2006 and currently runs 26 stores in 22 locations. Tengelmann has no other business in the country.
