Trakia Motorway completion to be financed by EU structural funds

The committee for monitoring the transport operational programme decided to include the completion of the Trakia Motorway in the list of projects to be financed with EU structural funds. The total investment amount of the construction works of the three segments between Stara Zagora and Karnobat with total length of 115 km is expected at EUR 375mn. The tenders may be called by the end of the year. As recalled, the state road infrastructure agency scraped the tenders for the extension of Trakia Motorway due to procedure violations. The decision followed a statement of the EC that the tenders are discriminatory and recommended new procedures in compliance with EU rules. In May last year, the government approved a decision to scrap the draft concession contract for Trakia Motorway. The planned investments in new construction of the 443-km motorway under the concession contract were valued at EUR 590mn.
