AtomStroyExport proposes delay on Belene nuke decision by December 1, 2011

Russia’s AtomStroyExport, part of the state-owned Rosatom, has prepared a project 14th appendix to the contract for the construction of the Belene nuclear plant proposing delaying the investment decision by December 1, 2011, the company said on its website. The proposal is in line with the roadmap of the project and has been sent to Bulgaria’s National Electricity Company (NEC) which is counterparty of the Russians in the Belene project. AtomStroyExport informs also that Mihail Andonov, CEO of NEC, has said that NEC will review the document and will discuss it with the consultant of the project HSBC, the Bulgarian Energy Holding (parent of NEC) and the Bulgarian economy ministry. Any comments on the document will be sent by Monday, August 15. In February 2008, AtomStroyExport signed a EUR 4bn preliminary contract to build the 2,000 MW nuclear power plant. In December 2010, the maximum price for the construction of the power producer was set at EUR 6.298bn. At the beginning of July, NEC and AtomStroyExport signed 13th annex to the preliminary contract for the construction of the plant in the Danube town of Belene delaying the final decision on the project by three more months until Sep 30, 2011.
