Austrian EVN wins tender for Plovdiv district heating company

The Austrian EVN wins the tender for the district heating company in Provdiv, Toplofikatsiya Plovdiv, the Privatisation Agency announced on Tuesday. The bid price of EVN for 100% of the company that includes the Sever thermal power station and the Yug heating plant is BGN 32mn (EUR 16.4mn), or BGN 7mn more than the bid of the second-ranked bidder – the French Dalkia International. The privatization contract for the heating company will not include any investment commitments for the next few years. The deal is now subject to the (formal) approval of the supervisory board of the Privatisation Agency, while the contract with the selected buyer has to be signed within 60 days afterwards. EVN is already present in Bulgaria ’s energy market after at the end of 2004, it acquired a pool of 2 regional electricity distributors that supply electricity to the Plovdiv and Stara Zagora regions. Recently, the Austrian company has declared its interest in acquiring the district heating plant in Rousse, too, and also investing in construction of own power-generating facilities, particularly hydropower stations and possibly, also coal-fuelled thermal power stations.
