The US producer of small off-road vehicles Polaris Industries may build a EUR 50mn plant in the country’s Danube city of Ruse or the nearby Romanian city of Giurgiu. This will be the first factory of Polaris in Europe. The final decision on the location of the plant would be taken in two months and would depend on infrastructure characterises, availability of qualified labour, administrative support, and other factors. The new plant should be operational by mid-2009 opening about 800 jobs. According to Polaris estimates, the local subsidiary will sell between 500 to 1,500 vehicles on the Bulgarian market each year while the European market would absorb 60,000 to 80,000. The sales of Polaris in Europe, including Turkey, amount to 85,000 vehicles produced in the US. Polaris is the second largest all-terrain vehicles maker in the world after Honda and holds a global market share of 22%.
