Bruce Power starts negotiations on Kozloduy nuclear plant

Ivan Genov, CEO of the nuclear plant in Kozloduy, confirmed that Canada ’s Bruce Power will meet government officials this week to express interest in signing a lease contract for the nuclear power plant in Kozloduy. The power plant has closed four 440 MW generators, two of which in early 2003 and two in the last day of 2006.  It operates two 1,000 MW units at present providing between 25% and 30% of the country’s power production. About a month ago, PM Sergei Stanishev announced that state officials have started talks with international companies to lease two idle units and would expect the contractor to lobby before the EU institutions for re-launching them. The nuclear plant in Kozloduy reported that it has produced more than 14.6bn KWh of electricity in 2007, which is 6.3% more than the annual target of the company.
