Deputy regional minister Dimcho Mihalevski announced that the construction of a new road in southern Bulgaria , crossing the Rhodope Mountain , will start in the beginning of next year. The road will link the town of Gotse Delchev , located in the western part of the mountain, to Kardzhali in the east. Greek partners are expected to provide EUR 30mn for the project and another EUR 50mn will come from the regional development operational programme of the EU. The destination between the two settlements is approximately 200km and goes parallel to the southern border with Greece . It will be linked to the two major motorways in southern Bulgaria – Trakia and Maritsa , and the border pass at Ilinden.
