Eight companies bid in first electricity export tender

Eight companies have submitted documents in the first tender for exports of electricity which was held yesterday. The subsidiary of the National Electricity Company (NEC), the Electricity System Operator (ESO), announced that 200MW may be exported to Greece, the same quantity to Serbia and 100MW to Romania. Electricity traders are most interested in the exports to Greece due to higher prices of electricity. The country might have exported electricity up to 1,000MW as the demand in the region is high. Production capacity is however constrained by the closure of two units as of this year and the planned renovation of another one of the nuclear plant in Kozloduy. The National Electricity Company, which was the only exporter of electricity by the end of the last year, has also submitted documents in the tender.
