The two power distribution groups in south-eastern Bulgaria , which are controlled by the Austrian energy company EVN, will invest some EUR 60mn for modernisation of their retail grids this year. The management of the company comments that most of the investment will be concentrated in tourist regions at the Black Sea coast as well as in mountainous resorts. The company will build new sub-stations in these regions to meet fast growing electricity demand in peak tourism seasons. It will also continue the programme for replacement of electricity consumption metres. EVN has acquired 67% of the two power distribution groups in late 2005 and has invested some EUR 42mn for improving supplies so far. It has also won the tender for full-scale privatisation of the district heating plant in the country’s second largest city of Plovdiv . The deal is valued at EUR 16.4mn and should be finalised by the end of this month.
