A military airfield near Rousse is on the list of former air force bases to be offered on concession to investors.
A defence ministry draft strategy envisages that air companies, airport operators, logistics terminal operators and similar companies will bid for the concessions. About 20 sites will be included in the offer.
In the case of Shtraklevo airfield near Rousse, a Swiss-German consortium, the R.I.C.H. project, has expressed interest. It plans to extend the airfield’s 2.5 km runway to four km to increase its capacity to handle civilian passenger and cargo traffic, and then to link the facility with the port of Rousse.
