Serbian president Boris Tadic confirmed at a meeting with Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov that Serbia is interested in participating in the project for the construction of a 2,000 MW nuclear plant in the Danube town of Belene. Earlier in the month, economy and energy minister Traycho Traykov said that the government was negotiating with Greece and Serbia on their potential participation in the project. The potential stake of Serbia was mentioned at about 1% while no details on the Greek interest have been provided. According to recent information in the Serbian press, Serbia has received an offer to participate in the project with 5% stake. In February 2008, Russian AtomStroyExport signed a EUR 4bn contract to build the plant, but later estimated that the construction and the launch of the two units will cost up to EUR 6bn.
