Three companies have offered to build sulphur purification installations for two of the generators (5 th and 6 th ) of the country’s largest thermo-power plant Maritsa East II. The three competitors are: Italy ’s Alstom Power, Plan’s RAFACO, and IDRECO INSIGMA Consortium. A total of ten candidates have initially purchased documents to take part in the tender. The funding of the project stands at EUR 80.3mn, of which EUR 36.1mn are ISPA financing, EUR 34mn are provided by the EBRD, and EUR 10.1mn is own financing of the power plant. The winner will be selected as soon as possible and the project should be completed by 2010. The power plant has power capacity of 1,450 MW and provides around 14% of the country's total output. At present only 2 of the 8 units of the power plant have purification installations.
