The local company Totema Engineering is selected by Maritza East III Power Company (MEIII) for running a EUR 22mn upgrade of newly installed environment protection systems. The deal includes design, production of equipment, and installation works. MEIII is jointly owned by Italy 's Enel (73%) and Bulgaria 's National Electricity Company (27%). MEIII owns and operates the coal-fired power plant Maritza East III near the town of Galabovo in the district of Stara Zagora. The company is running rehabilitation and modernisation projects valued at more than EUR 700mn. The new assignment to Totema Engineering will raise the total amount of investments in environment protection technologies to EUR 150mn since the start of the upgrade in 2003. The final objective of MEIII is to cut harmful emissions by more than 94%.
