The local brewery Zagorka, part of the Dutch group Heineken, is planning to invest EUR 15mn in capacity upgrades next year and EUR 15mn in new production lines and equipment in 2009. Zagorka holds the largest market share of 31.9% in terms of sales volumes in H1 this year against 29.6% last year. The company is exploring options for exports the UK targeted at the high-class segment of consumers. It reports a net profit of EUR 3.9mn in H1 while its sales rose by 15.5% y/y to 126mn litres in Jan-Aug. Cumulative investments in fixed assets have reached EUR 90mn for the last 13 years. Zagorka’s main competitors on the local market are Kamenitsa (owned by InBev) and Carlsberg Bulgaria. The three control more than 80% of the beer market in the country.
